Biography

Karina is postdoctoral research fellow in the One Virology group. She graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2016 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences and then completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in Respiratory Medicine on asthma (2017-2021). Karina then worked as a research fellow at the University of Nottingham Respiratory Medicine group on asthma for over year before joining the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in 2022 working in Professor Janet Daly's group in virology.

Karina's main research interests are Flaviviruses (Zika and tick borne Flaviviruses), respiratory diseases and viruses particularly influenza virus and its interaction with the airways on a cellular and immunological level.

Karina's areas of expertise are cell biology including specialised primary cell and tissue culture from biopsy patient samples as well as 3D cell culture models. She is experienced with a wide range of virology techniques including trained at handling category 3 viruses and immunological assays such as ELISpot, ELISA's and flow cytometry. She is also a PIL AB holder and experienced with rodent handling and vaccine studies.
