Energy Storage is many-faceted, it's real and it is going to be very big - inevitably!
Description
Professor Seamus Garvey reflects on the outcomes of the UK Energy Storage conference, hosted by the University of Nottingham in 2024. The time and place for UKES2024 could hardly have been more appropriate. Delegates were able to look out the window of the conference venue to see Ratcliffe-upon-Soar power station consuming the last coal that will be burned in the UK for power generation prior to the disappearance of coal-fired generation.

Energy storage is not whiskey – blends are best!
Date
09/07/2024
Location:
Online
Description
This webinar, which is part of Net-Zero Week, focuses on "the benefits of the blend". In theory at least, we could operate a net-zero energy system using just one type of storage but modelling is increasingly showing that blends of multiple types of storage will provide the lowest-cost systems. In this webinar we will hear about the four main ranges of discharge-duration for energy storage and the technical solutions that suit each of those four ranges best.
