FameLab 2024 East Midlands Regional Final
Nicki Pierce from the University of Lincoln will represent the East Midlands at the FameLab final in June.
Finalists from across the East Midlands captivated the audience with their three-minute presentations, bringing complex scientific concepts to life with clarity and charisma.
A panel of judges, including scientists and communication experts, had the tough job of picking winners from the lineup. They looked for clear messages, engagement with the audience and scientific accuracy. The topics were diverse and included talks about space weather, infectious diseases, education policy, cancer research, e-waste, glaciers, dinosaurs and bacteria.
A pitch from a University of Lincoln academic on her research around the abandonment of white working-class girls in education scooped first place. Nicki Pierce will now to be heading over to compete in the national FameLab final at the Cheltenham Science Festival

2nd Place: Teresa Castle-Green, University of Nottingham
3rd Place: Luke Richardson, University of Sheffield
