Nottingham's Food Systems Institute and UCLA partnership to foster innovation in sustainable food systems
The University of Nottingham - a global leader in food and agriculture research - partners with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to drive sustainable food systems solutions, healthier communities and advance global food security.
This partnership will create opportunities for expanded research and cross-institutional collaboration required to deliver an ethical and sustainable global food system transition.
The Rothman Family Institute for Food Studies will provide an ideal partner for the University of Nottingham’s continued efforts to reshape the future of food systems. The combined resources and shared vision of both universities will address some of the most pressing challenges in food policy and health on a global scale
“The partnership with UCLA marks an exciting new chapter for both the University of Nottingham and UCLA. Through the new Memorandum of Understanding, our institutions will work together to promote sustainable food systems, build healthier communities, and advance global food security” - Professor Zoe Wilson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science at the University of Nottingham.
Jack Bobo, the outgoing Director of the University of Nottingham’s Food Systems Institute, has been appointed the new Director of the Rothman Family Institute for Food Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Bobo will continue his association with the University of Nottingham as a member of the Food Systems Institute’s Advisory Board and as an Honorary Associate Professor at the School of Biosciences. He will work closely with Professor Paul Wilson, Director of the Centre for Food Policy and Foresight, on pioneering initiatives such as sustainable food policy, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) project, and the Future Proteins Project. These efforts will advance collaboration within the food system, reduce polarisation between stakeholders in the food system, and promote nutritional health on local, national, and global levels.
Bobo’s move to UCLA signals a new partnership between the University of Nottingham and UCLA, marked by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Bobo’s knowledge and experience of the research portfolio at the University of Nottingham will deepen the collaboration between the two institutions and exemplify the forward-thinking and global leadership that both are committed to, in advancing food systems and food policy initiatives.
Professor Zoe Wilson said: “We are confident that the joint leadership between Jack Bobo and Paul Wilson will continue to drive positive change for the future of food systems.”
