NRT: pre quit

Why wear a nicotine patch before you stop smoking?

Smoking is very harmful to you and your baby, however stopping smoking during pregnancy can be difficult.

This study tests a new way of helping pregnant women to stop smoking.

We will ask you to use nicotine patches before your quit date (the day on which you plan to stop smoking). We call this ‘preloading’.

Preloading helps people, who are not pregnant to stop smoking. This is a new treatment in pregnancy, but it is very likely it could help you become smoke free too.
