LGBT+ inclusion in sport

Sport has an amazing power to bring people together. Following and taking part can give us community, energy and a sense of belonging. That’s why we all need to play our part to make sport everyone’s game.

Whether it’s going for a swim, scaling new heights on the climbing wall, or trying a sport for the first time, we are working to make sure LGBT+ students are able to get into sport and fitness, and have an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

University of Nottingham Sport has been working with Stonewall to assist in the drive for greater inclusion for LGBT+ people in sport and against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.

Each year, the #GreenandGold advocates that our student athlete and members to take part in the #RainbowLaces Campaign so students, staff, volunteers and the community can show their support for inclusion.

Driven by our Sports Officer and Inclusive Sport team, our campaign aims to achieve:

  • Celebrate the achievements of LGBT+ students within sport at the University of Nottingham.
  • Highlight the stories and achievements of LGBT+ athletes and members in sport to inspire the next generation of athletes, leaders and sports industry professionals at the University of Nottingham
  • Develop partnerships with organisations and societies to offer additional opportunities for LGBT+ students through sport and leadership
