Our team
Our coaching team is led by an experienced road and track coach Tom Haines. Tom is a British Cycling Level 2 coach in track, road, time trial and cyclo-cross and has significant experience coaching youth, junior and U23 riders. A previous BUCS winner Tom has a real understanding of achieving within University sport. Combining a Masters in Psychology and Sports and Exercise Psychology with a love of all things bike racing, Tom has a coaching philosophy that places enjoyment and self-expression at the centre.
In the velodrome, the team is supported by Michael Gill an expert in all things Team Pursuit, multiple national track championship medallist, and member of the GB track cycling squad. On the road, the team benefits from the expertise of Grainne Hanley, a UCI qualified coach with experience coaching in international stage and one-day races.
The mountain bike team is coached by Michael Vickers; as a rider, he raced downhill world cups and for the past 8 years, has coached the British Downhill/4x team at World Cup and world championship events. He also has experience coaching BMX at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
