House Hunting 2023
When to start looking
It's important to ensure that you're making the right decisions about your housing and accommodation for next year. The University and Students' Union are advising students not to rush into signing up for accommodation.
Once you do start to think about where you want to live next year, make sure you are aware of the facts before you commit yourself to anything.
We understand that it can be daunting for students moving out for the first time, but once you know what to do, it can be a straightforward process.
There is no shortage of accommodation in Nottingham, so there’s no need to rush
If a landlord or letting agent tells you that you will miss out if you don't book early, ignore them, it simply isn't true.
Make sure the property is accredited
The Nottingham Standard helps tenants identify properties that meet a minimum quality standard and it recognises good landlords providing quality approved and well managed accommodation.
You can’t back out of signed contracts
Once you have signed a contract you are legally committed for the duration of your tenancy. This is likely to equate to several thousand pounds of expenditure so it makes sense to be absolutely certain before you put pen to paper. Contracts are complicated documents and the Students' Union Student Advice Centre will be more than happy to check over your contract before you sign.
