If you are studying a Social Work, Medical or Dental degree programme and certain areas of healthcare, you may be eligible for a bursary through the NHS.

Medical and dental courses

If you are studying a standard five or six-year medical or dental course you should apply through the Student Loans Company for the DSA when you are in the first four years of your course.  However, in the fifth and subsequent years of study, you would need to apply through the NHS.

Graduate entry medical programmes

If you are studying a four-year course you should apply through the Student Loans Company for the DSA when you are in the first year of your course.  However, in the second and subsequent years of study, you would need to apply through the NHS.

Social work programmes

If you are a full-time undergraduate, you should apply to the Student Loans Company for your DSA.  If you are a part-time undergraduate you can apply either to the Student Loans Company or to the NHS.

Students on Postgraduate Social Work programmes can only apply for the DSA through the NHS.
