Sultan Chaudhury

Sultan Chaudhury

Degree: Genetics, 2024

Sultan Raja Chaudhury (Sully) is a PhD student in the School of Life Sciences, where his research focused on investigating polygenic risk scores in Alzheimer’s disease. As a student, he’d been involved in the university’s A Cappella Society for a number of years, including two as President, receiving a number of awards during this time including Best Student Group 2020/21. Sully took sabbatical leave from his studies to stand as the Liberation Officer of the Students’ Union in 2021/22 and then Union Development Officer in 2022/23. There, his contributions have reimagined the relationship between the Union and the university, the local area and the higher education sector through his advocacy and authentic leadership. Since then, he has worked part-time for the university as the Universities for Nottingham Project Manager (EDI), piloting new ways of working between key institutions within Nottinghamshire and developing their ambitions to improve diversity, recruitment and retention of their workforces.

 

Paulomi Sengupta

Paulomi Sengupta

Degree: Medicine, 2023

Paulomi is a junior doctor based in Manchester. Passionate about global health, she has served as the national Global Health Education Director for Students for Global Health, and conducted research at the Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, studying the impact of a digital health intervention on reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality in low-resource settings.

Paulomi graduated from the University of Nottingham as the first prize recipient of the esteemed Elizabeth and J.D. Marsden Prize, awarded to students who have gained high distinction in their exams, and shown outstanding character in both academic and extracurricular settings.

 

Calum Heslop
17 July, 4pm

Calum Heslop

Degree: Medicine, 2023

Calum is an Honorary Clinical Fellow at the University of Liverpool and a Specialised Foundation Doctor at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

His current research interests are within fields including robotic surgery and Medical Education, with a focus on technology-enhanced learning. He graduated from Nottingham as a winner of the MARS Leadership Prize and Elizabeth and JD Marsden Prize, in addition to having a role co-ordinating the University of Nottingham Co-Responders.

 

Fleur de Sarandy
18 July, 1.30pm

Fleur de Sarandy

Degree: Chemical Engineering with an Industrial Placement Year, 5th year

Fleur’s year in industry was at a consultancy in the food and beverage sector as a Process Engineer, where she gained copious amounts of knowledge, on a wide variety of products. She found the most fulfilment in projects that primarily focused on enhancing sustainability and reducing environmental impact.

During her time at university, she was voted social secretary for the Chemical and Environmental Society, organising events for students across all years to enjoy. Her unique journey at the University of Nottingham has fostered significant personal growth that she hopes can inspire other engineers in their future endeavours.

 

Elizabeth Adeniji

Elizabeth Adeniji

Degree: Mechanical Engineering, 2022

Elizabeth is a 2022 graduate from the university and holds an MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering. Since leaving university, she has gone on to pursue a career in construction working as an Assistant MEP Manager.

A passionate advocate for the field, Elizabeth actively volunteers as an alumni and founded “she can engineering”, an initiative focused on inspiring and educating others about the diverse opportunities within engineering. Committed to fostering inclusivity, she strives to empower women and encourage them to pursue their passions in this dynamic field.

 

Annabel Mair
19 July, 1.30pm

Annabel Mair

Degree: Management with Placement, 2023

Annabel is a first-class management with placement graduate, who now excels as a Customer Success Account Manager at Microsoft, specialising in the defence sector.

During her time at university, Annabel demonstrated exceptional leadership. As the driving force behind the University Enactus Team, she led them to the prestigious Enactus World Cup, where they competed against world-leading innovative projects. Nottingham’s team showcased their ingenuity and determination, securing a remarkable top-four placement globally.

 

Emily Oxbury
20 July, 1.30pm

Emily Oxbury

Degree: History and Politics, 2022; History MA, 2023

Graduating with an MA in History last year, Emily had a particular passion for British cultural history. She was greatly involved in University Radio Nottingham during her university years, which led her to work on projects with TBI Media and BBC Radio. 

Emily was also responsible for organising a number of networking sessions for students interested in the media industry. She now works as an Events and Promotions assistant at Newsquest Media Group and as a Production Assistant at Future Radio in Norwich.

Most recently Emily has begun working with Norfolk Museums Service, and sits on their Youth Board, helping to shape the future of Norfolk’s museums and heritage services.

 

Calvin Medcalfe
20 July, 4pm

Calvin Medcalf

Degree: American Studies and History, 2022

Having graduated in 2022 with a First in American Studies and History, Calvin now works as a policy specialist within the International Group at His Majesty’s Treasury, exploring cross-reaching solutions to a number of critical geopolitical economic events.

During his degree, Calvin focused specifically on immigration into the United States, with his dissertation ‘‘Un-Neutral’ Neutrality and ‘Un-Patriotic Patriots’’, centred principally around the ethno-political and religious issues which affected German-Americans in the early 20th century.

Studying during Covid-19, Calvin also participated in a number of societies, and aided in the creation of Communi-Tea, which aimed to help second and third year students make new friends during the pandemic.

 

Abiodun Michael Olatokun
22 July, 4pm

Abiodun Michael Olatokun

Degree: Law, 2014

Abiodun is a human rights barrister helping the most vulnerable people through their interactions with the state. He supports refugees in gaining protection from political, religious and ethnic persecution. He also works with children and young people to ensure that they have the right support for their disabilities at school.

Abiodun is a university lecturer and is the creator of a course, Citizenship and the Rule of Law, which has provided human rights education to over 20,000 people from every country in the world.

Abiodun is an Honorary Life Member of the University of Nottingham Students’ Union and our 2021 Alumni Volunteer of the Year.

 

Eloise Stone
24 July, 10.30am

Eloise Stone

Degree: Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2022

Eloise is a scientist at AstraZeneca, currently on the Pharmaceutical and Technology Development graduate scheme, rotating around the business in different departments, with a strong focus on sustainability and lead-time reduction of medicines.

While studying at Nottingham, she was President of PharmSoc and actively involved in many extra-curricular activities such as the Nottingham Advantage Award, course representative and Welcome Week.

She undertook her year in industry at Quotient Sciences as a formulation scientist, and her dissertation project with Dr Frankie Rawson focused on functionalising cytochrome-c for redox induced apoptosis has since been published in nano-nature.
