Welcome desk

During Welcome Week, the School of Cultures Languages and Area Studies (CLAS) Education and Student Experience (ESE) Team will have a welcome desk in the CLAS Common Room, B10, Trent Building. We can help with any queries around your department induction schedule, your personal tutor, peer mentoring and the student rep system.

Some sessions will take place online. You can find a study space to use if you need a quiet place to join.

Participation/interaction key

Each activity on your schedule lists the level of interaction..

No interaction

An information session with no questions asked of the audience. You will not be asked to speak in front of the audience. 

Some voluntary interaction

An information session with very limited (voluntary) participation. The speaker may ask questions or invite you to ask questions on a voluntary basis. You will not be asked to speak in front of the audience.

Active voluntary interaction

An interactive session, where the speaker may ask questions but will ask for voluntary answers. You may be asked to contribute.

Social interaction

A social/informal event aimed to help you get to know your peers and/or different services/groups from around the university.

Transition to university support

The Libraries Learning Development Team will be running two online sessions to help you with the transition to university. These sessions will provide tips and guidance across a range of topics from getting to grips with university-level study, to the difficult feeling that some students have of being an imposter at university. Recommended for all.
