Flexibility in admissions

Here at the University of Nottingham we look at a range of factors and aim to give everyone an equal opportunity to show their achievements on their application.

Here at the University of Nottingham we look at a range of factors and aim to give everyone an equal opportunity to show their achievements on their application. We treat everyone on an individual basis and recognise the potential of talented students from all backgrounds.

If you want to know more about the flexibility applied at various stages of the admissions process, take a look at the information below.

Looking to apply to university?

We understand that choosing where to apply can be tricky – there are so many factors to consider when finding the right university for you. If you’re interested in a course at the University of Nottingham and feel that your grades don’t match our standard offer, we may still be able to consider you.

For a number of our undergraduate courses we encourage aspirational applications from students with slightly lower predicted grades – we know that these predictions are not always accurate and may not end up reflecting your final grades. In these circumstances we will still make you the standard offer you are eligible for, so make sure you’ve checked the course page and are comfortable with the grades we ask for.

Please note that we cannot guarantee an offer will be made for any applicant as we receive more applications than we have places, but if you can see yourself at Nottingham then we want to hear from you!

Received an offer from Nottingham?

First of all – congratulations! We’re delighted that you chose to apply to us and that we’ve been able to make you an offer, and we really hope we’ll be welcoming you to the University of Nottingham soon.

We know that waiting to get your final results can be nerve-wracking and you may be worried that you’re not going to meet the conditions of your offer.

When we get your results, if you miss the conditions of your offer we will consider you as part of a process called Near Miss. This means that we have a look at how many places we have available on the course after accepting everyone who fully meets their offer conditions, and then see if we can accept anyone who has narrowly missed their conditions.

As a firm choice offer holder, you’ve shown us how committed you are to studying your chosen course at Nottingham, so we try to be as flexible as we can, to help you meet that goal and to show you the same commitment.

You don’t need to do anything to request participation in this process – once we get your final results we will thoroughly consider your application automatically and our final decision will be updated on UCAS. For lots of qualifications we get your results directly via UCAS, but if we’re missing anything then we will be in touch to ask you to provide any documents we need.

Waiting for your exam results can be a daunting time, so our Admissions Manager, Maryam, discusses what to expect from us on Results Day and the options you have available to you.
