How does the University of Nottingham support equality, diversity and inclusion?

We are an inclusive, respectful and safe environment where you can be yourself, so you can be the best that you are.

At the University of Nottingham, our top priority is to create a genuinely equal and inclusive environment for both students and staff. We are committed to fostering this inclusivity through various means and objectives.

Our primary goal is to provide comprehensive support to students of all backgrounds, enabling and encouraging everyone to achieve their best potential. We firmly believe in offering equal access to opportunities, thereby representing and supporting our entire community while celebrating diversity and nurturing a sense of belonging.

We put principles into action to establish a thriving and harmonious environment where individuals can flourish personally, academically, and professionally.

Let’s be clear about EDI

We launched this campaign to inform, educate, and guide people through the core values behind equality, diversity and inclusion. This illustrates how the university integrates these values into all aspects of its operations, benefiting everyone at the institution, whether they are students, staff, or alumni.

Our involvement

We support various activities, ranging from short-term working groups addressing specific issues to broader initiatives aimed at enhancing staff training. Our central aim is to cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture that promotes a safe, happy, and authentic environment for all. We take an active approach and employ a clear plan for measuring our progress and identifying areas for improvement.

Pillars behind all our initiatives

This will help create an environment where we can all listen and share our experiences, ensuring inclusivity in everything we do.

Addressing both student and staff communities, it will see us become more proactive in encouraging diversity.

We want people to feel confident in practicing equality, diversity and inclusion in everything they do, with clear data, oversight and evaluation.

As a university, we represent more than Nottingham, so we need to showcase and encourage the diversity of all our people across the entire community.

The Diversity and Inclusion Research Hub

The hub serves as an interdisciplinary platform that unites researchers, focusing on sustainable, sociocultural changes in our societies. Our ongoing commitment is to foster a positive culture built on diversity, inclusivity, wellbeing, and engagement.

This is the place where you can truly be yourself and call home

We are a community inclusive of all people, where we provide a level playing field for everyone, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief. Our commitment is to ensure that you will be part of our community throughout your studies.

That’s why we are always open to understanding different people’s needs and what barriers need to be removed in order for them to be comfortable and appreciated.

No matter your background, you will always find a home here.
