Student vlogger Calvin chats to Graham Thompson, Professor of American Literature, for the lowdown on the literature side of our American and Canadian Studies courses.

Literature modules you can choose from include:

  • Contemporary North American Fiction
  • American Literature and Culture 1: 1830-1940
  • American Literature and Culture 2: Since 1940
  • American Magazine Culture
  • American Theatre
  • The American Pop Century
  • From Landscapes to Mixtapes: Canadian Literature, Film and Culture
  • African American History and Culture
  • Ethnic and New Immigrant Writing in the United States
  • Recent Queer Writing
  • Varieties of Classic American Film, Television and Literature since 1950

The range of readings – including the mix of film and play scripts – really engaged me in the course.

It was very helpful to try new things and then tailor my studies to my newfound interests. This year I even found myself optionally choosing to write on poetry!
