From US foreign policy to immigration and ethnicity, joint honours student Sana explains why it’s the politics side of American Studies that she loves best.

Politics modules you can choose from include:

  • American Freedom? Empire, Rights and Capitalism in Modern US History, 1900-Present
  • Race, Power, Money and the Making of North America, 1607-1900
  • American Radicalism
  • African American History and Culture
  • History of Crime and Punishment in the United States
  • US Foreign Policy, 1989-present
  • The US and the World in the American Century: US Foreign Policy, 1898-2008
  • Prohibition America
  • Troubled Empire: The Projection of American Global Power from Pearl Harbor to Covid-19

In my A levels I was very interested in literature. As I started my degree, I became more interested in history and then realised that I was more interested in political history and politics. That ability to form your own path was really important.
