Faculty of Arts placements and volunteering

Get career-ready, build your skills, and make a difference

Whether you have a career in mind or not, completing a placement or doing some voluntary work is great for your CV. They are also perfect ways to build connections and try out the world of work.

What is a placement?

You might see placements advertised as ‘internships’, ‘work experience’, or ‘volunteering’, as different organisations use different terms. What’s most important is that you choose what interests you.

We offer three main types of opportunity. They are:

  • Paid placements
  • Unpaid placements, for credit towards your degree
  • Unpaid voluntary opportunities, for giving back to the community or building your skills

Whichever option you choose, you can:

  • get hands-on work experience
  • build the skills employers want
  • improve your awareness of the sector you would like to work in
  • have a better idea of your future career goals
  • gain entry into a competitive industry

Got questions? Our placement team can help!

Whether you are looking for support about the opportunities available to you, or have questions about how the schemes work, the team are happy to help.

One of the best things about an arts degree is the plethora of career opportunities available to our graduates! However, this can sometimes be a little daunting for some students who may not know where to start narrowing down their options. Placements are a great opportunity for students to develop their employability skills, and refine their career plans.
