Arts work placement module

Stand out in your job search with employability skills and hands-on experience

The arts work placement module is an opportunity for second year undergraduates in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies (CLAS) and School of Humanities. It offers the chance to develop valuable employment skills, before completing a placement at a local business.

What you'll do

You will learn key skills, from constructing an outstanding CV to practicing interview technique, before completing a part-time placement in the spring. This will be for one day a week, or equivalent, for up to eight weeks.

How it works

You can apply for placements in relevant local organisations. The dedicated faculty placement team have an established list of providers, or you can arrange your own placement, subject to approval.

Our placements include a range of sectors, including:

  • creative and cultural industries
  • media
  • marketing
  • heritage and museums
  • the music industry
  • education
  • charitable and third-sector organisations

These are subject to change each year.

How is the module assessed?

Assessment is through an online portfolio, including application materials, reflective writing and a research report. 

What skills will I gain?

You will develop a wide range of transferable skills, including:

I helped tidy up music scores and print them out for the musicians, set up stages for performances, change PowerPoint slides for the audience to follow the lyrics and sing along, assist pianists by turning score pages during performances and many more interesting tasks.
