I'd like to be a journalist and am starting to gain the skills I'll need. As the Cultural Secretary I have opportunities to write articles about Latin America. This is helping me gain not only writing skills, but research skills too.

This year I’m a member of the NSTV committee, with the role of marketing and publicity officer. I also have the pleasure of presenting a talk show that I created with the help of the NSTV members. I pitched them the idea when I joined, and they were more than happy to help me and show me the ropes of the studio. I then had access to all the equipment I needed to film and edit as I pleased.

I worked on Impact and worked my way up from being a writer to editing the whole thing. I learned so much, not just systems like InDesign, but also how to edit, how to write, how to put things together, how to manage contributors.

Through the Creative Student Network, Sarah had the opportunity to shadow the stage production manager for a Florence + The Machine concert in Nottingham.
The stage production manager oversees everything that goes on behind a concert. So he's looking at the set design, the sound engineering, and the lighting. It's an experience I really enjoyed. I learned so much more about what goes on behind a concert than I ever could have just by reading something online.
