What made you get involved in NSTV?

I wanted to get into NSTV because I loved doing media in college. My course - French and International media and communications - is mostly theory work but I still wanted to produce media and work on the skills I’d learnt from studying TV, web and film production in college.

One of my lecturers advised me to join a society where I could do things on the more practical side, like working with equipment and editing, so in the second semester I looked around to see what society I could join and came across NSTV.

What is it that you do with NSTV/what is your role?

This year I’m a member of the NSTV committee, with the role of marketing and publicity officer. This entails running social media and trying to promote NSTV to students and those wanting to join.

I also have the pleasure of presenting a talk show that I created with the help of the NSTV members. I pitched them the idea when I joined, and they were more than happy to help me and show me the ropes of the studio. I then had access to all the equipment I needed to film and edit as I pleased.

I had a great, talented and welcoming team surrounding me when I joined NSTV and have since made some great friends.

What are the main skills that you’ve gained from being part of NSTV?

You get the opportunity to do some really fun things, for example I presented in a video for campus life where I got to showcase Nottingham as well as work on my presenting skills. I also got the chance to watch a University of Nottingham netball headliner and work as a camera operator.

My presenting skills have definitely improved as well as my confidence. I’ve also worked on my visual and audio editing skills and learned to operate new technical equipment.

How do you think the skills you've gained might help in your future career?

These skills will benefit my future career as I like the idea of being a well-rounded media worker that can work both in front of and behind the camera if need be.

I came to uni with the aim of working in the media industry, but my dream job is to be a presenter. All this experience and these opportunities are working towards that goal, as you never know who you’ll meet and where one project can lead you.

As much as I like learning about the theory of media in my course and find it really interesting, the most fun part is actually making something. Being a part of a project and NSTV has given me the perfect environment to do that!
