Civil and Structural Steel Design Project

Civil Engineering module spotlight

During your time at the University of Nottingham, you’ll study a huge variety of interesting modules and practical tasks that delve deeper into your course and prepare you for the working world. One of these we know you’ll love is our main group design project for our second-year students, the Civil and Structural Steel Design Project.

During this group design project, you’ll have the opportunity to use all you’ve learned to design a new hall of residence on our University Park Campus. You’ll apply the knowledge you gained in your first year to design a complex steel-framed building and all its ancillary works. This means you’ll design the drainage, transport, sustainability, and health and safety features too.

This design-based module gives you the chance to work in our purpose-built design studios, using the latest in collaborative computer-aided design tools. You’ll experience working in a multidisciplinary team, learning how to delegate and integrate tasks and to communicate those ideas to a client.

Once completed, you’ll showcase your designs to members of our Industrial Liaison Board. They’ll review your project and will even award prizes to their favourite projects!
