Get ready for the world of work with a year in industry

A degree in Product Design and Manufacturing opens a wide range of career options and there’s never a better time to try some of them out than when studying with a year in industry

As well as getting a taste of what to expect after graduation, a year in industry also enables you to gain real-life experience, build contacts within the field and strengthen your CV – all while getting paid! As well as improving your employment prospects and discovering a field you love; you’ll also get direction within the industry you’re interested in.

During the year, you’ll be classed as an employee at your host company. This means they’ll pay you a salary and give you a real taster of working life.

To help you find the perfect placement, we have a dedicated team of career experts to support you in finding something that aligns with your interests and aspirations.

I secured a placement with Proctor and Gamble, where I worked on improving their production equipment. The services provided by the placement team really helped. Every time I applied for a placement role, I could have my CV checked to get the very most out of each opportunity. I also went to the mock assessment centres and interviews that really helped in preparation for interviews!

Have you thought about studying abroad?

See the world, explore new cultures, discover new interests, and open career opportunities. Those are just a few of the many amazing reasons why some of our students opt to study abroad for a year. We have campuses in Ningbo, China and Malaysia, and there are partner universities around the world that you could potentially study at. All our partners teach in English, so you won’t need to speak a second language, though we’re sure you’ll pick up the local lingo whilst you’re there!

Whilst studying you’ll receive academic tutor support from both the host campus and our International Office to discuss everything from accommodation to welfare. You can also receive additional support from academics at Nottingham if you’d like.

What happens when you return to Nottingham after your year abroad? Our students are supported to enable them to fully integrate back into their studies, including co-ordinating module choices and projects.
