Vet medicine: finance

From additional costs to scholarships and bursaries.

When preparing for university, there are some additional costs which you need to factor into your budget, alongside your tuition fees and living expenses.

What are the additional costs?

There are some essential items that you will need for your course. These are:

  • boiler suit
  • wellington boots
  • parlour top
  • small animal handling tunic
  • waterproof jacket and trousers
  • clogs and scrubs
  • stethoscope
  • digital thermometer

Total costs for these items are approximately £300. Our vet school shop sells
all items at a low cost for order and collection. A complete list will be provided following your successful application.

Extra-mural studies (EMS)

Costs are dependent on the location of your placements, in terms of travel and accommodation.

You can choose the location of your EMS, so might find somewhere close to where you are based, helping reduce these additional costs.

Find out more about EMS.

Final-year placements

Accommodation is provided at some rotations but there will be extra travel costs.

The school currently provides a £300 travel allowance, paid directly into your bank account. This is available to all students and is intended to cover shared petrol costs, as students regularly carpool to their placements.

Books

You should be able to access most of the books you will need through our libraries, though you may choose to purchase your own copies either through our vet school shop or second-hand.
