Vets in the Community

Volunteer and put your skills into practice.

Vets in the Community provides free routine veterinary care for the pets of homeless and vulnerably housed people in Nottingham and the surrounding areas.

It is a student-run initiative with charitable status, founded in 2012.

How does it work?

The mobile clinic is managed and run by a committee of Nottingham vet students under the supervision of staff members.

The clinic runs on a weekly basis in locations around Nottingham. Services on offer are:

  • health checks
  • vaccinations
  • micro-chipping
  • treatment for fleas, worms and minor ailments
  • advice on pet healthcare and nutrition

The student committee also spend time fundraising to keep the service running.

We go out into the centre of Nottingham, and they have a trailer where they treat the animals of homeless and vulnerably housed people. It’s really good to practise consulting skills.
