Study abroad for your module: Tropical Medicine and Beyond

A spotlight on the Tropical Medicine and Beyond module taught at the Malaysia campus

When you choose to study with us, you have the opportunity to visit our Malaysia and Ningbo campuses to take Life Sciences modules. The Tropical Medicine and Beyond module, available via summer school at the Malaysia campus, is an excellent example of how you can expand your horizons through studying abroad.

The module gives you a more global and holistic insight into medicine, by introducing you to tropical diseases commonly found in Southeast Asia as well as aspects of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. You’ll learn through lectures and practical sessions regarding infectious diseases, such as the clinical management of tropical snakes and bat trap demonstrations.

Our previous students have visited the Sungkai Wildlife Conservation Centre in Perak and the herbal decoction room at Tung Shin hospitals, meeting healthcare professionals in Malaysia and gaining practical experience not readily available in the UK. Aside from the traveling and exploring that comes with the study abroad experience, you can also expect to see how you can have a greater impact into the future. Watch the video below to find out more about the Tropical Medicine and Beyond module.

What our students say

It's been fantastic so far. we've been so privileged to meet so many fantastic people, and I think the module conveyors, every time they speak or introduce a different topic, they're so passionate and for us it's so exciting.

Hazel King

Undergraduate student

Yesterday, looking at the snakes, it's been absolutely incredible finding out not only a little bit about them but also how to treat snake bites and what to do about them. As a future doctor, it's incredibly helpful to know about first aid for snake bites.

Daniel McCulla

Undergraduate student

I think that I've really gained a lot of broader understanding about the world and understanding that medicine isn't just what we see in the UK. My doors have been opened and I've been really educated on things that maybe I wouldn't have known about.

Undergraduate student
