Supporting you throughout your life sciences studies

Get advice, support and guidance on an academic and personal level during your time at Nottingham

During your course, you’ll have plenty of support available to you. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • a personal tutor during your entire studies
  • senior personal tutors who run their own drop-in sessions where you can discuss wider issues or talk to someone if you need additional support
  • the ‘Peer Assisted Study Support’ or PASS programme is in place to help support your transition from college to university. The programme pairs first-year students, with a student from the year above who is on hand to provide study support. They also run ‘lunch and learn’ sessions, towards the end of your first year to support your transition to year two
  • wellbeing check-ins via email. We monitor attendance in the school, not so we can ask why you’re not attending sessions, but because attendance to sessions can be the first indicator that something is wrong. These checks are designed to signpost you to our wellbeing team, refer you to your personal tutor and give you a chance to ask for help if you need it
  • access to university student support services

The Education and Student Experience team are on hand to ensure you’re well supported throughout your studies. We run welcome activities and events aimed at helping you meet your peers and making sure your voice is heard through our rep system. We also organise events and activities geared towards supporting you to make the right educational choices about placements, a year abroad and module choices. Our fortnightly newsletters contain information directly to your inbox on several different useful services across the university and if you’re not sure where to go to find the correct information the team is on hand to help.
