Your career path in nursing
A career in nursing opens a world of possibilities, shaping compassionate individuals into skilled healthcare professionals ready to make a difference.
Our nursing courses offer a comprehensive education, focusing on core skills in clinical practice, patient care, communication, anatomy, and compassion.
Upon successfully completing any of our NMC-approved courses, you'll be eligible to register as a nurse. You’ll have the experience needed to work within the NHS, private healthcare or within the voluntary and independent sector.
You'll work with adults of all ages, addressing various physical health conditions like heart disease, injuries, pneumonia, arthritis, diabetes, or cancer. Settings may include hospital wards, outpatient units, patients' homes, and clinics, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting patients' families and carers. Once you have qualified as an adult nurse, there are a wide range of opportunities. Specialise in areas such as operating theatres, care for the elderly or intensive care.
Whether in hospitals or community settings, such as psychiatric wards, health centres, or homes, you'll work alongside professionals like GPs, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists. Specialist options include working with children and adolescents, as a primary mental health worker or in a field such as transcultural psychiatry. You’ll be looking at how mental disorders and their treatment can be influenced by cultural and ethnic factors.
Choose a career as a children’s nurse for impactful work. Care settings vary from hospitals to day care centres and community locations such as child's home. You'll be part of teams consisting of doctors, hospital play staff, healthcare assistants, newborn hearing screeners, psychologists, and social workers, working together to provide comprehensive care.
You may also choose to pursue a career in teaching, research or management.
