Week in the life: Environmental science student
Olly talks about socials, field trips and extracurricular activities.
Choosing the right course for you is really important, but the memories you’ll make outside of lectures and seminars will also make a huge impact on your time at university.
We caught up with environmental science student, Olly Staines, to talk about his experience as a student at Nottingham.
Because environmental and plant science are small courses, there are plenty of opportunities to get to know people on your course. Olly was able to make lots of friends by going to socials and on a field trip to Barcelona.
While in Barcelona, he was able to learn a lot about air pollution while making memories with his coursemates in a new city.
If you’re into sports, there is also an Environmental Science netball team where you can play and make friends with people from all years of your course.
As well as the subject-based activities, you can get involved in loads of university-wide sports clubs and societies.
In his second year, Olly started writing for The Tab Nottingham and progressed the Co-editor in Chief. The Tab is a student-run publication that covers student life and youth culture. During his time at The Tab, he’s written articles on a range of topics, including:
Not only is this a great way to develop your writing and journalistic skills, but it’s an opportunity to meet people outside of your course that share a passion for writing.
No matter what activity you choose to do alongside your course, it’s a great way to make the most of your time at university and make friends from all walks of life.
