Edward and Margaret Leafe Scholarship

For students from a lower-income background studying in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine or the School of Biosciences

The Edward and Margaret Leafe Scholarship provides financial support for students from lower income families studying in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine or the School of Biosciences. 

If you are chosen for this award, you will receive funding throughout the course to support your time at the University of Nottingham and you won't have to pay it back after you graduate.

Are you eligible?

Eligibility criteria explained

To be eligible for the 2024 Edward and Margaret Leafe Scholarship Fund, you must:

  • Be enrolling in Autumn 2024 for the first year of a full-time 5 or 6 year undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Science at the University of Nottingham (UK Campus), this being your year of entry to the university

    OR
  • Be enrolling in Autumn 2024 for the first year of a full-time 3 or 4 year BSc or MSci course in the School of Biosciences at the University of Nottingham (UK campus), this being your year of entry to the university*. 

You must also:

  • Have a household income between £0-£35,000
  • Not have studied for an undergraduate degree before starting at Nottingham
  • Have home funding status
  • Not be receiving external sponsorship for your course e.g. from industry/employers (University Core bursaries and Government grants do not affect your eligibility)
  • Have had their household income assessed for your statutory government support and consented to share this information with the university

Otherwise eligible part-time students who are unable to study full-time because of a disability should contact the Funding and Financial Support team to discuss their funding options.

*Students who have completed a foundation course initially then taken an eligible route to apply for an eligible course in the School of Bioscience will, if successful, have their foundation year award paid retrospectively. Other Bioscience student must apply in year 1, this being their year of entry to the University.

How to apply

Applications for the Edward and Margaret Leafe Scholarship Fund will open in Summer 2024. Further information regarding the 2024 entry scholarships will be provided in Summer 2024.

Applications will be looked at once the closing date has passed and all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by email to their university email account within 4 weeks of the closing date.
