A usual week at the University of Nottingham
The everyday week at UoN is usually a balanced mix of study and other activities, with the latter acting as a social catalyst to get you going places.
The usual week at the University of Nottingham is a bit of a non-existing concept.
That’s because no week is the same as the last, with so many things to do. The average week varies from student to student, as it all depends on how much free time you have on your agenda, and how many new things you are willing to try out.
Once you’ve nailed your study schedule in place, and counted a few extra study hours for just in case situations, you can start adding extra activities to make make your week more, extra bubbly, better focused, or chilled and relaxing.
Here’s a fast overview of how you can fill up your free time:
Our join something list
Here you will find ways to pursue your passions, find new ones, and make friends in the process.
Join a society
With over 200 societies at the University of Nottingham, the range of activities is more diverse than you can imagine: from economics to yoga, and public speaking to quidditch. Joining a society is super easy, and so is creating one, if you feel that something is missing.
Join a sports club
There are over 70 clubs here, with sports ranging from the most popular, such as football or cricket, to sports that have small, but diehard fanbases, such as aikido or canoe polo.
Alternatively, if all you want is a good workout, you can do so in one of our sports centres or outdoor gyms.
Join a music group
Season musician or novice, you’re just as welcome to make and enjoy music on campus. Plenty of options to choose from, with choirs, orchestras, chamber groups, or one of the many musical societies - any acapella skills?
Learn a new language
The Language Centre gives you the opportunity to learn a new language, with nine languages to choose: Arabic, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish.
Alternatively, there are also English classes for international students, where you can improve your language and become confident using it on a daily basis.
How to complement your studies
At Nottingham you can find placement opportunities or extra modules that will fit into your schedule without overbooking your week.
Nottingham Internship Scheme
The Nottingham Internship Scheme provides an entire range of work experience opportunities, so you can get both work and life skills. All the opportunities are with small to medium enterprises, charities and other organisations.
Nottingham Consultancy Challenge
The Nottingham Consultancy Challenge gives you the chance to gain hands-on experience with virtually managing a short-term project for a small business or charity. Open to all students, regardless of how much experience you have.
Optional placement year
You can undertake a placement after your penultimate year of study to explore an area of career interest and build professional skills.
Successful completion of your placement will result in ‘With a placement Year’ mention added to your degree title.
Digital Marketing Academy
The Digital Marketing Academy is open to all the students at the University of Nottingham regardless of your group or subject. It provides insights and knowhow on digital marketing, such as understanding Google ranking or social media advertising.
The programs stated above are organised and delivered by the University of Nottingham. However, there are also other opportunities offered through various schools and departments you should explore.
There is more…
There are numerous events organised throughout the year by the university, such as themed festivals, civic activities, as well other cool things to diversify your week - puppy room, anyone?
The dates vary from year to year, so visit UoN’s social media pages and check them as they come.
Also, there’s a zillion and one other things organised by other students and centred around social events. All you have to do is join a couple of social media groups to be in the loop.
So, how does the usual week looks like at the University of Nottingham?
As ‘usual’ as you want it to be.
