How to apply in Clearing

This information is for international applicants

If you've already got your results, haven't already got an offer from a university or want to rethink your options, you can apply for an undergraduate course through our international Clearing enquiry form.

We welcome Clearing applications from all qualified applicants - whether you've applied to us previously, changed your study plans after receiving results, or you're applying to universities for the first time.

Follow this simple step-by-step guide to make your Clearing application.

This guidance is for international students only (classed as 'overseas' for tuition fees purposes).

Are you currently holding a conditional offer from us?

We'll update your offer once we receive your results (via UCAS or from you, depending on what exams you have taken).

In some cases we may still be able to accept students who have narrowly missed the grades stated in your offer conditions, so please wait for us to assess your results and update your offer.

See our guidance on results day and submitting exam results.

Your step-by-step Clearing guide

Check our international Clearing vacancies for any courses that interest you.

You will see our Clearing entry requirements on this page. You can also click on a course listing to view full details, modules and fees.

You will need to click 'international students' to see our courses that are open for students who are assessed as 'international' for fees purposes.

A level and International Baccalaureate Diploma requirements for each course are found on our course vacancies list. Our entry requirements during Clearing may differ slightly from our standard entry requirements.

We also accept a wide variety of international qualifications. Check our webpage for your country for guidance on the grades we typically accept.

Our minimum English language requirements are grade 4 or C at GCSE English language, or IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any element), or equivalent. Some courses need a higher grade so please check the requirements for your course on the course vacancies list.

Please see our guidance on English language requirements for details of other qualifications and tests we accept as evidence of English ability.

Once you have found a course that interests you, and you meet the requirements, get everything ready to make your application to Nottingham. We can only make unconditional offers during Clearing so you must have recieved your final exam results before applying.

You will need:

  • your UCAS number
  • full details of your qualifications and exam results
  • the course title and course code of the course that you want to apply for

You can only make one application at a time. Each course has a limited number of places available and due to the high numbers of applications we receive, our courses sometimes fill up quickly.

We cannot guarantee that a palce will be available on your chosen course, even if this was showing as available on our website when you applied.

Use our international Clearing enquiry form to provide us with all your details and preferred course.

You must provide your details including academic results in the form so that we can assess whether we can offer you a place.

A member of our International Student Recruitment team will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss your options. They can make you a Clearing offer if you meet all the requirements, and they will send you an email to confirm details of your offer in full.

If you are applying directly to Clearing without having made a previous UCAS application, have a look at the UCAS Clearing guidance to find out how to start your application.
