June 2024

Hi,

This month we welcome the new Energy and Carbon Manager to the university, celebrate awards, rankings and projects, and #showourstripes.

We also have a focus on travel during Better Transport Week, highlighting how we can all reduce our environmental impact through our travel choices.

So let’s get going!
Prepared character

In the UK, transport is now responsible for more emissions than any other sector, overtaking those from energy and heating.

Guest column

Hi everyone!
I’m Mariana, the new Energy and Carbon Manager in the Sustainability Team. My main focus is ensuring the ongoing development and success of UoN's carbon management program, achieving both financial and carbon savings in line with our net zero carbon goals.

My expertise includes developing and implementing heat decarbonization strategies, identifying opportunities for energy and carbon reduction, and creating project plans and business cases. I also ensure compliance with relevant legislation and provide technical support for integrating low-carbon and renewable energy technologies.

I was born and raised in Mexico City, where I graduated as an architect. I hold a PhD in Sustainable Energy Technology and an MSc in Sustainable Building Technology from UoN. I am passionate about driving sustainable practices and am committed to making a positive impact in the built environment to create a greener future.

Looking forward to working with you all!
