Biography

Helen qualified as a social worker with a DipSW / MA from the University of Nottingham in 2004 and has recently returned, joining as a teaching associate for the Centre of Social Work May 2023. During the intervening years, Helen has been a practicing social worker, advanced social work practitioner and most recently a team manager in adult social care. Her main interests and time in practice has been working with adults with a learning disability working in a number of community learning disability teams in different local authorities. Prior to qualification she worked in a number of social care settings, primarily for those with learning disabilities for a number of years.

Helen is a qualified practice educator, working with and assessing social work students and newly qualified social workers in the local authorities. She also qualified as a Best Interest Assessor from the University of Birmingham and undertook this role in Nottinghamshire County Council.

Helen's teaching responsibilities will be in the law and adults and families modules focusing particularly on the Mental Capacity and Care Acts.
