Biography
I joined the University of Nottingham as a teaching associate in August 2023. Prior to my role at UoN, I was a research officer at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust; a lecturer in sociology at the University of Brighton; and postdoctoral fellow in the Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace at the University of Winchester.
At UoN, I convene Research Design and Practice (Qualitative Research) module, teach on Understanding Contemporary Societies (Autumn term) and Society, Health, Tech and Environment (Spring term) . In my previous roles, I convened/ taught modules such as Sociological Imagination, Contemporary Social Inequalities, Foundations of Sociology, Globalisation and Society, Ethnic Conflict and Philosophy of Social Sciences Research.
I have a strand of research in political sociology where I investigate bottom-up/ grassroots activism in the contexts of the transition to democracy. My work looks at horizontal trust, civic engagement and activism (broadly understood) in post-war societies. Prejudice, hate and inter-group relations is another strand of my research. I have made a specific use of Social Contact Theory/ hypothesis in understanding cross-community attitude changes.
