Biography
Karolina is the 2020/2021 Endowed Award - Andrew Hendry Prize recipient, recognising her accomplishments in research, publications, conferences, and contribution to the Postgraduate Community.
Karolina started her PhD in Science and Technology Studies in 2018, being the inaugural recipient of a postgraduate research studentship from the School of Sociology and Social Policy. Researching under the supervision of Professor Reiner Grundmann and Dr Alison Mohr, Karolina is focusing on bioenergy with carbon capture and storage and fracking discourses. Particularly interested in the comparison of the storylines (Hajer, 1995) surrounding both energy technologies, against the backdrop of the UK's net-zero transition, Karolina's research uses a combination of both newspaper analysis and primarily qualitative semi-structured interviews.
So far, Karolina has been accepted to present her research at several international conferences (EASST/4S, IST Vienna, IST Graz, 5th Energy and Society Conference) and was also able to present her research twice at the Institute of Science and Society, at the University of Nottingham, in the first and in the third year of her PhD. Karolina is also an active member of the Institute. In 2021 Karolina also attended the prestigious STEPS (University of Sussex) Summer School.
In 2018 Karolina completed an MA in Social Science Research (Sociology) with Distinction at the University of Nottingham, having focused on the discourses surrounding fracking in the UK in her thesis, which was also supervised by Professor Reiner Grundmann.
In 2017 Karolina graduated with a BA Hons (First Class) in Social Sciences from Edinburgh Napier University.
