Biography

Lucy is a Postgraduate Researcher in the School of Sociology and Social Policy. Her PhD project explores the experiences of women working in STEM academia at the UK and China campuses of a multi-national higher education institution. In doing so, it aims to further academic understanding of the ways in which organisational policy interacts with the wider socio-cultural context to develop distinct organisational cultures, and the effects of these organisational cultures on women's experiences in masculinised professions. It also aims to explore the impact of organisational (and national) culture on women's interpretations of their experiences in a male-dominated workplace, and their negotiations of their professional identity. Ultimately, this project hopes to contribute towards improving women's experiences and, consequently, their representation in both STEM academia and masculinised industries more broadly.

Lucy also holds an MSci in Contemporary Chinese Studies from The University of Nottingham, obtained in 2016.
