This event is being held to celebrate 100 years since the birth of Rosa Parks, the African-American civil rights activist who refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white passenger. It will involve an afternoon of talks by academics from the Universities of Leicester, Warwick, Nottingham and Birmingham as well as by representatives from the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute and the British Association for American Studies (speakers will depend on programme).

Post-16 students will also get the opportunity to have a closer look at artefacts from the Civil Rights Movement during one of their sessions. Please see the full programme for more details on talks and timings.

Please note:

There will be absolutely no parking available onsite for the event. Coaches/Buses may however drop-off and pick-up provided they find their own parking during the afternoon. If you would like any information about public transport in the area please get in touch with us at outreach@le.ac.uk
