Listen Up! (Raising the profile of post incident support)

SEN and Disabilities Seminar Series 2021/22

This seminar will highlight the importance of post-incident support structures, for children with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties, including information from recent research studies. Dean will also outline ways to support children with communication difficulties post incident.

Dean Cotton is a Behaviour Management Consultant and a Team Teach Principal Tutor. In 2000, after working in a variety of educational and care settings, Dean started work at Broad Elms School for students experiencing Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) in Sheffield where he trained the whole staff group in Team Teach. Following the training the school’s serious incidents reduced by over 95% and exclusions reduced to zero making Broad Elms the first organisation to receive the Team-Teach Gold Standard Award. In 2005 Dean started PBS and in the past five years Dean has carried out several pieces of research in post incident support and regularly writes articles for British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) and Social Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties Association (SEBDA).
