IT resources

All delegates are registered with a University of Nottingham associate student account which provides access to the university’s online platforms such as MS Teams and Moodle. It is through these IT platforms that all of the learning resources, and some, if not all, the teaching will be delivered. It is also how you will submit assessments and receive tutor feedback.

Your NHS Talking Therapies service employer is aware of these course requirements and of their obligation to support you to be able to engage with the training.

If you have any concerns about accessing the necessary IT platforms mentioned above, please get in touch with the team and we will be happy to support you.

Course content

The course involves:

  • extensive experiential skills work
  • theoretical principles and values of person-centred therapeutic approach
  • orientating your current practice to the Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression manual (PCE-CfD).
  • working with emotional processes and the PCE conceptualisation of depression
  • supervision and clinical practice
  • recording counselling sessions for assessment against the Person-Centred Experiential Psychotherapeutic Scale (PCEPs).

The programme applies a social justice issues lens throughout the curriculum and its delivery.  All learning is experiential and in the context of empathic, accepting and genuine relationships to best support your personal and professional development.

Assessment

Therapists are formatively assessed by submitting a 20-minute recording of a skills session with a peer. This is a learning experience to see where your current practice sits in relation to the PCEPs adherence scale. Those who complete the 30-hour training will be placed with a PCE-CfD Supervisor.

The full qualification is achieved by submitting a further four recordings of client work and completing 80 hours of supervised PCE-CfD practice. Six submissions are allowed in total.

The supervision costs and assessments are included in the course fee. We expect therapists to become fully qualified within a year of starting the training.

Extensions and interruption of study can be applied for and are detailed in the course handbook which you will receive when you join the course.

Pre-course reading material

Pre-course reading material covers:

  • working with the requirements of NHS Talking Therapies (forms/risk/assessment/competence framework)
  • orientation to the PCE-CfD competence framework
  • the person-centred experiential psychotherapy scale (PCEPS)

We encourage you to ensure you have studied this material before attending.

Cost

Most people who complete the training are funded by their employer, however we are open to self-funded applicants.

The fee for training is £3,300.

All funding must be secured before applying. We require confirmation from the funder that the fee payment will be made if the application is successful. For the face-to-face courses the applicant, or their employer, will need to cover travel and accommodation costs.

If you are self-funded, pease complete the application form and ensure that you tick the self-funding option. Please note that our courses have a limited number on each cohort and priority is given to HEE funded applicants.
