Professor Diane Birch receives her OBE

Diane Birch, JC Smith Professor of Law at the School of Law, received her OBE from the Princess Royal last week, having been awarded an OBE for services to Higher Education in the New Year Honours.

Diane joined the staff in 1975, having previously been a student in the School of Law at Nottingham. She rose through the ranks to become a professor, and has also served as both Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor.

Diane and her family were invited to Buckingham Palace to collect her OBE, where the Princess Royal presided. She even asked Diane a question about Citizens Advice Bureau, and Diane was proud to be able to tell her about the module at Nottingham which is built around student volunteers, leaving the Princess Royal very impressed that our students can get credit for helping with the CAB!

On attending, Diane says "It was a wonderful day that I will always cherish, but in the true spirit of irreverent humour for which my students are likely to remember me, my favourite moment was watching Liv, my younger daughter, stalk James Corden, who also received an OBE that day, in order to get a Palace 'selfie'!"
