Dr Aris Georgopoulos participates in roundtable on Brexit

On Tuesday 24 May 2016, Dr Aris Georgopoulos participated in a roundtable on Brexit with business leaders from the Midlands.

Insider held a roundtable to debate the issues and to find out what the main concerns were. After a wide-ranging discussion, our roundtable said it valued free trade and movement of labour, but wanted less red tape and more accountability from the EU.

Dr Georgopoulos said: "Surely if we replace free movement of labour with a point system will increase red tape significantly and that will increase cost for business. The UK was the only large EU Member State that didn't implement limitations on the free movement of persons when Eastern European countries joined the EU in 2004. Germany regrets implementing such measures because they've missed the opportunity of attracting young, talented and skilled labour. Instead these people came to the UK. The UK has an unprecedented deal which it has negotiated with the EU: this should be highlighted in the debate."
