Viva Success for Doctoral Researcher Chester Yacub

Congratulations to School of Politics and International Relations' doctoral researcher Chester Yacub on passing his phD viva with minor corrections.

His thesis explores manifestations of (de-)securitisation within Philippine foreign policy responses to the South China Sea disputes spanning from 1995 to 2022. It further examines one maritime incident, the alleged ramming, sinking, and abandoning of a Philippine fishing boat at the Reed Bank in 2019, as a deviant case of de-escalation.

Chester's thesis was examined by Professor David Gill and Dr Tom Smith (University of Portsmouth). Chester was supervised by Dr Pauline Eadie and Dr Jonathan Sullivan.

Congratulations Chester!
