Hand Fracture & Joint Injury Patient Advisory Group
Do you want to help shape the future of hand surgery research?
We are looking for patients who have experienced a fracture (break) and/or a joint injury of the hand, to help us to make sure that:
- Our research is important to patients/public
- Our research is right for those who take part
- We tell people about our research in the right ways
- We try to find better ways to help people with hand conditions
This is known as Patient and Public Involvement (PPI). As a member of our Patient Advisory Group you would be invited to participate in activities to help us to plan, improve and carry out research into common hand problems.

Joints are the place where two bones meet. They link bones together and allow our bodies to move. There are many joints in the hand which allow us to use our hands freely. If you have injured one of the joints in your hand, we would like to hear from you.
What does it involve?
As a member of our Patient Advisory Group you would be invited to participate in activities to help us to plan, improve and carry out research into common hand problems.
This may include:
- Taking part in focus groups & workshops
- Supporting research design and planning
- Providing feedback on written information for patients

Q. Can I choose which activities I take part in?
YES. You are under NO obligation to participate in any activities you are invited to.
Q. Do I need any experience to join the group?
NO. You do not need any experience, we just want to hear your views.
Q. Will being involved in this group affect my treatment?
NO. This will not affect the treatment or care you receive.
Q. Does this mean I will be entered into a study?
NO.

You can find out more about PPI from INVOLVE, a national advisory group funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) at www.invo.org.uk
What do patients say?
I got involved to make life better for the next generation. But it turned out to be really interesting and fun too.
