Description

Our final LSP Reading Group session of the year will be taking place this Wednesday, 31st May, in Trent A35, 3-4pm. This month’s session is being led by Alexander Harby, and is titled ‘The Geopolitics of 20th Century Board games’. Alex has provided pictures and information on two of the board games he is looking at in his research, all of which will be circulated to those on the mailing list.

My research studies the geopolitical discourses of board games published in Britain in the early 20th century, particularly during the two World Wars. In this session, I thought it could be fun for the reading group to study a couple of the board games I have been working with, in order to discuss how the representation of space, place and landscape on a board game map can interact with the theme of the game and its rules to produce certain ways of looking at arenas of war.

We hope you can all join us then!
