Current Research

Aging and moisture damage are the main degradation mechanisms of asphalt pavements. With time, moisture and oxygen react with bitumen and they change bitumen chemistry and consequently physical, rheological and mechanical properties of bitumen are modified.

This study aims to identify moisture damage processes and the combined aging and moisture damage mechanisms on bitumen. Thus, it could provide a clear understanding of the failure mechanisms and a more completed picture of the characterization of bitumen in order to build durability and long-lasting asphalt pavements.

This research brings a new approach which is "Applied Chemistry in the field of Pavement Engineering".
