My stereotypical view of Margate as an outsider was that of a seaside postcard. The postcard produced with Alan Dunn links two contrasting views where text contradicts image. The reverse of the postcard displays unattributed comments on Margate from diverse sources: interview, film, guidebook, diary and history. They are connected only by place and a common chronology. The text is displayed in the exhibition without image to emphasise fragmentary, contrasting and dislocated attitudes over 230 years to the function of Margate.
