Human Geography and Chinese Studies

This Diploma and Masters course is based upon the research strengths of School of Geography within the broad field of human geography, and the language skills and other training provided by the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies. The course provides general and specialist training in research methods, and is recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council as a ‘2+3’ training route.

The Human Geography and Chinese Studies Diploma and MSc is a highly distinctive course aimed at students with an interest in undertaking research in the human geography of China at an advanced level. As well as combining general research training in the social sciences and theoretical and philosophical developments within Human Geography, the MSc provides substantial language training in Mandarin at the University of Nottingham in Ningbo, China. Graduates of the Diploma and Masters course will be equipped to go on to postgraduate research and subsequent academic careers, or to jobs in the public, commercial or voluntary sectors. The specialist language training in Mandarin provided on the Diploma and MSc course means that graduates will be well placed to undertake careers focused either on or in China.
