Brooke Donovan is a Graduate of Geography with Chinese Studies
"Deciding to go to university is a big decision for anyone, the only thing I was certain
about was that I wanted to study geography. When looking through what felt like hundreds of
prospectuses it became clear that I would have to visit the university and the department to
get a complete feel for the place. When visiting Nottingham’s geography department on an open
day it became clear that its welcoming atmosphere and its structured yet flexible course would
be right for me.
My arrival at Nottingham University was, like my first day at school, a memory which is likely
to stay with me for many years to come. The friends I made and the experiences I had during my
three year undergraduate Geography with Chinese Studies degree have been truly life changing.
After the initial relief of graduation the realisation that the student phase of my life had
finished was somewhat distressing. The future was wide open and somewhat scary.
I started a PGCE (teacher training) course at Nottingham’s Jubilee campus in September and am
now working hard in local schools teaching geography on a daily basis. Although this is very
challenging, it is also a privilege to be influencing the next generation of geographers."
