Charlotte Lewis is a Graduate of Geography Single Honours BSc

"As you might hope, the Geography BSc course that I studied at Nottingham, provided me with the opportunity to develop specific interests in Environmental Management and Environmental Change, through fieldwork and lectures, while simultaneously giving me a valuable understanding of the interactions between our physical and human environments, and how this impacts on our everyday lives. Importantly however, I found the course varied and inviting and it successfully held and developed my interest for my three undergraduate years.
Significantly, I believe that my time within the Geography Department and at Nottingham University has provided me with a core environmental ethos, which I have been lucky enough to continue into my professional career.
I now work for Environ, one of the UK’s largest Environmental Charities, on a pioneering Environmental Management Systems Project, which is being tailored specifically to work in schools, in the most deprived areas of Leicester City. We are developing EMAS (Eco Management Audit Scheme) to link directly into the National Curriculum, and provide a framework for Sustainable Development Education nationwide.
The Geography Department are responsible for cultivating this enthusiasm for the subjects I now work on. This is now embodied through an invitation to progress this field of study through a part time PhD linked to the Centre for Environmental Education Research at Bath University.
I honestly love what I do, and I know that a large part of the opportunities and passion that I now have, stemmed from my time spent in the Geography Department, where my personal environmental interests were supported and allowed to flourish."
