Claire Rose is a Graduate of Geography Single Honours BSc

" I chose Nottingham University mostly for the course. I didn't like city universities and I was impressed with the greenness of the campus. University Park has a great atmosphere and has everything a first year would need. I hardly left the campus for the first 6 months! The course offered the flexibility to choose modules from both human and physical geography in combination after the first year, which provided a grounding in a variety of disciplines. The lecturers try very hard to help you succeed and seem really interested in how you, as an individual, are doing.
Later on in the course you are given problems that are real debating points in the academic community and you start to feel that you know enough about the subject area to offer your own opinion. The school of geography becomes a real community during your time there. Solidarity is developed under sometimes adverse conditions in the field. You get opportunities to join lots of clubs and societies. I was in the theatre, GeogSoc, and helped out at a local Guide unit. Nottingham the city is fantastic. The shopping is good and the night life is very broad. Sometimes there are more people on the streets at 10.30 at night than there are at 10.30 on a Saturday morning! There are loads of different restaurants and bars, and great student offers during the week. I still go back there several times a year for a weekend of shopping, great food and cocktails! My three years as a Geography student were brilliant, thank you to all the staff and lecturers!"
