Biography
Having completed a Degree in Biochemistry, a Master in Environmental sciences, Chemistry and Health, and a PhD in Chemistry, I left the science for a couple of years and focused on its management. However my nurturing spirit brought me back into Research and Teaching by taking a research technical position at the School of Life Sciences at the Queen Medical Centre in Nottingham.
Expertise Summary
I am working at understanding the organization, regulation and function of genes. My technical expertise is based around Molecular Biology/Biochemistry. At the gene level, I can perform sub-cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, genotyping, gene expression. At the transcript level, utilizing cultured cells, I have recently trained to run and analyze qPCR experiments using common software packages. At the protein level, I am able to achieve protein/antibody purification, cell fractionation, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, immunocytochemistry, whole in situ hybridisation, bench flow cytometry. I am responsible for ensuring the running and safety of two busy teams, which includes teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students the basics of experimenting in a laboratory.
